Restoring Raynor

Hole 13: Road

In order to achieve the proper angle to hold the green in two, a Road Hole requires challenging the Out of Bounds or a hazard on the inside of the dogleg from the tee. The safer the tee shot, the longer the second shot becomes from a worsening angle. The Road Hole’s green features a small fronting bunker, a long and skinny putting surface, and a road (or road bunker) diagonally backing the surface.

2026 Restoration

From the tee, choices will be made evident to the player by restoring the fore bunkers that create the “Road Hole” strategy off the tee. The fairway bunker emulates the strategy and location of the Scholar’s/Progressing bunker complex on the original Road Hole at The Old Course at St. Andrews. The green complex will feature a deep bunker in front and a large bunker that represents the “Road”, which the cart path will run through. The unique triangular front of the green restores Raynor’s original shape and features a dramatic false front that requires strategic placement off the tee.
