The winter respite kept secret for generations can be yours to discover.

A visionary, the world’s pre-eminent landscape architect, and America’s highest regarded golf architect convened in 1915 to thoughtfully design Mountain Lake. Touting the work of Frederick Law Olmsted, Jr for the design of the Park and Seth Raynor for the golf course, Frederick Ruth ambitiously sought early investors, promising the idyllic climate and terrain as the perfect winter colony. Ruth looked to the undulating sand ridge enveloping the Park to sweeten the deal for investors: the surrounding land was perfect for the burgeoning citrus business, and, capitalizing on Mountain Lake’s structure as a corporation, titans of industry soon found their own Eden in the young groves.

One notable early member purchased 100 acres of the highest land to “Make You The World A Bit Better Or More Beautiful Because You Have Lived In It.” Edward Bok, author and publisher of the Saturday Evening Post and Ladies Home Journal dedicated the land to the people of America. Today, Mountain Lake members carry a philanthropic torch by contributing to their communities here and abroad. Members find common ground in this bucolic setting where an understated elegance is tucked safely within the protective enclave and beyond status.
